AnnotationAgeism, defined as unconscionable prejudice and discrimination based on actual or perceived chronological age, is present at all stages of employment. This book seeks to identify and discuss the nature and some of the main causes of ageism and age discrimination at work and employment in the UK, and to a lesser extent elsewhere. It describes and explores the experience and practice of age discrimination at work and in employment; and presents, compares and contrasts some of the main remedies that have been proposed in the context of relevant economic, political and social trends. Twelve of the chapters were first given as papers at a conference on Ageism, Work and Employment held at the University of Stirling in July 1996. (RH).
