Driving and the elderly population | Author(s) | Andy Ross |
Journal title | Signpost, vol 6, no 2, October 2001 |
Pages | pp 26-30 |
Keywords | Drivers accidents ; Driving capability ; Statistics [data] ; Literature reviews. |
Annotation | The number of over 70s in the UK holding driving licences is expected to increase from about 2 million in 2001 to 4.5 million by 2015. The author examines the evidence surrounding accidents and older people, the extent to which older people give up driving voluntarily or have their licences revoked, and the consequences for giving up and alternatives to driving. He concludes that the current "blanket" assessments of driving ability could do with some revision. (RH). |
