Annotation | The authors report on a study of 35 popular American self-help books on caregiving and aging parents published between 1993 and 1999, selected from an internet search. They rated the texts according to 10 criteria relating to: the clarity of the book's purpose; the author's profession; the author's personal experience with caregiving; title/content congruence; problem solving strategies; inclusion of a resource guide; psychological/relationship issues; health matters; financial/legal information; and housing issues. The raters were in agreement 97% of the time, and found the overall quality of this genre of popular books to be high. (KJ/RH). |
