Annotation | The present study examined the relationship between fear/anxiety associated with pain, coping self-statements, depression, health status and medication intake in a sample of 38 older adults. Correlational analyses revealed that pain anxiety was significantly related to catastrophic coping, depression and self-rated health status but not with medication usage. These results indicate that certain models associating fear and avoidance with chronic pain may be relevant to the development and maintenance of pain problems in older people, as well as in younger adults. It is suggested that targeting such variables in treatment may prove beneficial for managing pain in older people. (KJ/RH). |
