Annotation | Results are presented of a research project undertaken in the late 1990s about health and social care restructuring in Scotland, and the likely impact of reform on the informal sector. Four themes are explored: the influence of the voluntary sector in the development of social care provision; factors contributing to geographical variations in access to and availability of voluntary sector supports; the interrelationships between formal and informal services at local level; and the way in which key agents operating within specific spatial arenas impose their own agenda or interpretation on voluntary action. These are examined and illustrated by an in-depth empirical study of policy makers and informal carers of frail older people in Scotland. (RH). |
