The Care Standards Act 2000 (CSA) provides for a Director of Private and Voluntary Care within the National Care Standards Commission (NCSC), and the development of regulations and national minimum standards. The Act also requires health care providers to ensure the provision of quality care, and to be accountable for the care provided on their premises. These National minimum standards apply to establishments such as acute hospitals and hospices. The standards cover: information provision; quality of treatment and care; management and personnel; complaints management; premises, facilities and equipment; risk management procedures; records and information management; and research.
