AnnotationThe opening of the St Christopher's Hospice, founded by Dame Cicely Saunders in 1967, has often been given as the beginning of the modern hospice movement. A review of literature from the late 1950s and early 1960s reveals how the basic concepts and principles of the hospice movement came together long before the founding of St Christopher's. (RH).
