Annotation | The Government is about to enter a period of consultation on age discrimination legislation to be introduced in 2006. One measure to be examined is the possible abolition of mandatory retirement ages for both men and women. The Employers Forum on Age commissioned this public attitude survey of some 1000 men and women aged between 16 and pension age. In general, many people are adamant that the age at which they retire should be their choice. There is a strong body of support for abolition of compulsory retirement: nearly half would still not choose to work beyond retirement age, and of those that would, most would only want to work part-time.
