AnnotationThe purpose of the Joint Review is to provide an objective assessment of how well people in the London Borough of Havering are being served by their social services. The postal survey of users indicated a degree of satisfaction from the (mainly older) people completing it, but identified problems with the complaints procedure and attention to outcomes for users in seeking and receiving help. Examples of good practice include: a direct call centre offering immediate assessment and short-term home care; a home from hospital team; and a community dementia service at the Petersfield Centre in Harold Hill (featured in the Audit Commission study, "Forget-me-not"). One of the priorities for action concerns achieving equitable access to services, including offering assessments to all carers, and avoidance of hospital admissions and improving discharge procedures.
