Real choice in later life living arrangements radical solutions to make this a reality | Author(s) | Keith Sumner |

Keywords | Living patterns ; Housing [elderly] ; Consumer choice ; Social policy. |
Annotation | The following themes are examined: genuine choice for older people as they make decisions about their present and future living arrangements and their care support needs; involvement with respect to having an influence on the nature of that provision at an individual level; and a voice in issues around quality and flexibility at a more strategic level. The proliferation of legislation since the late 1980s - principally the NHS and Community Care Act 1990 - and a range of policy initiatives from the Labour government since 1997. should mean that there are mechanisms to influence service provision. How effectively older people's views can be put across - particularly on their housing needs - remains open to question. (RH). |
