Annotation | There has been a public perception for some years that private residential and nursing home owners are milking a profit from the system. According to the umbrella body for independent care homes in Scotland, Scottish Care, this is not the case; and the funding position has become so difficult that the opposite is true. The author presents facts and figures with regard to residential care in Scotland. If funding problems are not resolved, independent care home providers will have no option but to refuse to take any community care funded clients, or face closure. The Scottish Executive and the Treasury may face other pressures, but can we afford not to resolve this problem? (RH). |
