AnnotationThe author welcomes the National Service Framework (NSF) for Older People for its emphasis on eradicating ageism and for promoting person centred approaches. Her paper focuses on Standard Eight of the NSF - the promotion of health and active life in old age - and refers to other standards, NSFs, and health policies such as the NHS Plan. The Beth Johnson Foundation's health promotion work with over 50s in Stoke-on-Trent also informs the Foundation's response to Standard Eight. In producing a standard on health promotion, the NSF gives legitimacy to health promotion activities that are specifically targeted at older people, and emphasises their inclusion in a range of preventive strategies.
