AnnotationSubjects were participants in one of two clinical trials carried out by the Alzheimer's Disease Cooperative Study (ADCS), in which the authors sought to determine the nature of the difference between 148 AD patients with higher levels of behavioural disturbance and 235 less disturbed patients. "Diversity of behaviours" and "frequency" were defined and operationalised with respect to the item-level response on the Cohen-Mansfield Agitation Inventory (CMAI). In these two samples of AD patients, differences occurred in the frequency of 10 out of 21 behaviours, rather than a variety of endorsed behaviours. These 10 behaviours - observed at different frequencies in both groups - may be useful for monitoring change in studies of drugs or behavioural interventions for behavioural disturbance in those with AD.
