AnnotationAn occupational therapist working with nursing staff at Liberton Hospital - a medical assessment and rehabilitation hospital for older people in Edinburgh - reports on a small study using group sessions. A group of 15 patients with cognitive impairment met twice a week, to encourage their engagement in activity and social interaction. There was an overall positive short-term effect on their mood and behaviour, suggesting that enabling them to engage in purposeful occupation can contribute to minimising their disturbing behaviours.
