AnnotationIn a representative survey of 30,000 women aged 16-64 across the 15 European Union (EU) Member States, information on people's current and preferred weekly hours of work was collected. This is a summary of the survey's main findings concerning men's and women's preferences for increasing or reducing the number of hours per week that they work. Among other issues discussed are care responsibilities, overtime, sabbaticals and part-time work. The survey provides evidence that many full-time workers would prefer substantially shorter hours, reducing their pay accordingly. A full version of the research is also published by the Foundation (2001). (RH).
