AnnotationThe purpose of the Joint Review is to provide an objective assessment of how well local people are being served by their social services. It concludes that Dorset has a range of good service provision that meets the needs of most of its population; results of the postal survey also indicate that people are satisfied with the services provided. Independence, particularly that of older people, is being promoted through rehabilitation schemes. More needs to be done, though, with home care. Examples of good practice includes a multidisciplinary rehabilitation team at Buxton House, a residential care home. Priorities for action identified by the Joint Review include: developing and strengthening strategic commissioning; strengthening performance management; and use of Best Value (BV) reviews for continuing improvement in services. The report also notes the need to introduce a formal accreditation scheme for home care, and to apply it equally to both the in-house and independent home care sectors. (RH).
