AnnotationThe purpose of the Joint Review is to provide an objective assessment of how well Doncaster's people are being served by their social services. While the quality and range of services are good, too many people wait too long for routine, preventative or small levels of service. The review was also carried out against a background of political difficulty and management problems. The review notes that older people's services have good outcomes for helping them to live at home; but some services are not always provided at times convenient for service users. Examples of good practice include: good quality residential care for older people; co-ordination of services with Health's Community Intervention Team; projects within the Hospital Social Work Team for earlier discharge and continued support, and for providing services to people with dementia; community-based day services for older people; a joint equipment store; and a training and development plan. Priorities for action relate to use of performance assessment (PAF) indicators and commissioning based on Best Value (BV) principles. Some changes are also needed to ensure that frail and vulnerable people have access to services that meet their assessed needs. (RH).
