AnnotationThis Best Value Review was conducted in the context of appropriate entry into residential and nursing home care, provided directly or purchased by Slough Borough Council. The area was chosen because of its budgetary significance and the assessment within the Older People Joint Investment Plan that there was an over-reliance on long-term institutional provision. The review also examined the quality and range of community-based and home support services provided to promote people's independence and alternatives to premature or inappropriate entry to long-term care. The Council was assessed as providing a "Fair" 1-star service which is likely to improve, and recommendations are made accordingly. (RH).
