AnnotationThe idiosyncratic and multifaceted nature of Alzheimer's disease (AD) represents a suitable target for memory rehabilitation. Literature searches on Medline, PsychINFO and PsychLIT for 1995 to 2000 indicate that careful scientific studies with case-specific and flexible memory rehabilitation procedures in AD are beginning to emerge and produce promising findings. The sustained and direct participation of a relative or carer as co-therapists are required to enhance the efficacy of memory rehabilitation for AD patients. The availability of acetylcholinesterase inhibitors urges the need to investigate any additional benefits that can accrue from both pharmacological and memory rehabilitation interventions for AD patients.
