Annotation | The Leipzig Longitudinal Study of the Aged (LEILA75+) is a population-based sample of some 1700 over 75s conducted between January 1997 and June 1998. Some 75% of the sample was interviewed, of which participants, 17.4% suffered from dementia according to DSM-III-R, including mild, moderate and severe cases. Dementia according to ICD-10 was diagnosed in 12.4%. The largest differences appear in the oldest age groups. The ICD-10 sets a higher threshold for dementia diagnosis. Larger differences in the oldest age groups might reflect difficulties in applying case definitions, especially for those beyond age 90. (RH). |
