Annotation | This book results from the first phase of the AGEIN (Advancing Gerontological Education in Nursing) project, a three and a half year longitudinal study funded by the English National Board for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting (ENB). The focus is on factors affecting the quality of life of categories of vulnerable older people and their carers in the context of care delivery. The notion of "expertise" is explored, and how this fits in with person-centred care and the relationship between lay person and expert. Chapters cover: acute and rehabilitative care; community care; care needs of older people and family caregivers in continuing care settings; palliative care; mental health needs; and older people with learning disabilities. A concluding chapter suggests an integrated or integrative approach to person-centred care. (RH). |
