Annotation | Data from the Ontario Health Survey (OHS) was used in this study. Consistent with previous studies, number of health problems and self-rated health emerged as the most important predictors of general practitioner (GP) use. However, despite an effort to enhance predictability of the Andersen-Newman Behavior Model, the predictors explained only 29% of the variance in GP use when applied to the entire OHS entire population. Furthermore, the level of expected variance remained consistently low when analyses were performed across age and gender groups. Although the model has been the most widely used conceptual framework in the field, the present study suggests that this model may not be appropriate for studying GP use by older Canadians. (RH). |
