Determinants of home care utilization — who uses home care in Ontario? | Author(s) | Ruth Hall, Peter Coyte |
Journal title | Canadian Journal on Aging, vol 20, no 2, Summer 2001 |
Pages | pp 175-192 |
Keywords | Domiciliary services ; Usage [services] ; Social surveys ; Canada. |
Annotation | Prevalence of home care use in Ontario (4.3%) was ascertained using the Ontario household sample of the 1994/95 National Population Health Survey (NPHS) Health file, and the Ontario Home Care Administration System database. Factors independently associated with an increased probability of future home care use were: age 75 and over; limitations in activities of daily living (ADLs) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs); poorer health status; and previous home care use. Knowledge of these factors will better help to define the purpose and goals of home care, and in developing funding models. (RH). |
