Annotation | Because of present and future substantial numbers of over 60s in Africa, coupled with a gradual but steady erosion of the traditional family support system - a product of changing economic and social environments - policy makers and researchers should be considering older people's needs and requirements in the scheme of things. This article presents 10-yearly population projections for regions of Africa from 2000 until 2050, to draw attention to the relationship between declines in fertility and consequently birth rates, and the resultant ageing population.
