AnnotationThe Personal Social Services Research Unit (PSSRU) has started a research project, financed by the Alzheimer's Research Trust, to investigate the impact of cognitive impairment on long-term care demand and expenditure. The project involves use of information from the MRC Cognitive Functioning and Ageing Study (MRC-CFAS, 1998) on the prevalence of cognitive impairment by age and gender, in order to make projections on numbers of older people with cognitive impairment in England to 2030, and on the services they will require. The study will use the same information source to examine the relationship between cognitive impairment and difficulty in performing activities of daily living (ADLs) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs).
