AnnotationOne of the key recommendations in the "Review of social work in high security hospitals" (the Lewis report, Department of Health, 2000) was that national standards should be developed for the provision of social care services to patients in Ashworth, Broadmoor and Rampton. The service standards in this document are drawn from the Lewis report and recent SSI inspections. They cover changes in responsibilities and requirements of: the Hospital Social Care Service; hospital management; local councils managing the Social Care Services; local councils with in-patients; local councils in whose areas high security hospitals are located; and the Probation Services. A covering letter outlines stages of the implementation period. (RH).
