High prevalence of anxiety symptoms in hospitalized geriatric patients | Author(s) | Kari Kvaal, Jurate Macijauskiene, Knut Engedal |
Journal title | International Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry, vol 16, no 7, July 2001 |
Pages | pp 690-693 |
Keywords | Anxiety ; Symptoms ; Psychogeriatric patients ; Correlation ; Norway. |
Annotation | In this Norwegian study, 98 geriatric in-patients and 68 healthy home-dwelling controls of similar age were examined for anxiety as a current emotional state using Spielberger's State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI). The scoring of STAI in geriatric in-patients is found to be high, and thus feasible for use in older geriatric patients and controls. Further studies are needed to clarify to what extent this relates to a high prevalence of anxiety disorders. (RH). |
