| Annotation | From birth to old age, those at the bottom of the social scale have much poorer health than those at the top. This book presents reprints, with revisions, of two key reports. "Inequalities in health" by a Working Group chaired by Sir Douglas Black was first published in 1980, and launched the debate by revealing the scale of the problem. Margaret Whitehead's "The health divide: inequalities in health in the 1980s" - first published by the Health Education Council in 1988 - is updated to describe the situation in the early 1990s, to make international comparisons, and to discuss policy options.
