AnnotationSouth Gloucestershire was established in April 1996 as a unitary authority from the former Northavon and Kingswood Districts of Avon. This joint review assesses the extent to which people in South Gloucestershire are well served by their social services, and finds that some are but with gaps and problems of access. Community Care Services are noted as having made impressive progress with carers' assessments, though many user and carer groups experienced lengthy waits. Examples of good practice include the Occupational Therapy (OT) customer service desk, and external accreditation of the Authority's older people's homes. Home care services also well regarded. Priorities for action include strengthening user and carer involvement across services. (RH).
