Annotation | The extent and nature of political participation and representation of older people in Europe is explored, with a particular focus on the European Union (EU). The book is in two parts. The first provides an overview of the main issues: participation in decision-making; barriers to political participation; the legal structure; and the organisation of political participation. Part 2 comprises national case studies on the politics of old age in Austria, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden, and the UK. The United States (US) is also included for comparative purposes, as the politics of old age has achieved greater prominence there. The concluding chapter synthesises the main elements of these country studies. (RH). |
