Annotation | In general, pensioners' incomes have increased over recent years. Although there have been gains for all groups, those with the highest incomes have gained most, while some 70% of pensioners received at least half of their income from state benefits in 1998/99. This paper gives general information about the incomes of pensioners. It includes information about income levels; changes in income over time; the different components of income; factors that can influence income levels; and adequate incomes. Information is based on the most recently published data, most of which comes from the annual Department of Social Security (DSS) publication, "The pensioners' income series" which is based on the Family Resources Survey (FRS) and the Family Expenditure Survey (FES). This paper replaces the August 1999 edition. (RH). |
