AnnotationThe value of background music or dedicated music therapy sessions in enhancing well-being for people with dementia are well known but have limitations. The authors outline findings of their research study on singing as a therapeutic intervention to accompany daily routines and activities. The study took place in a 24-bed specialist dementia care unit, part of a larger hospital in an urban area of Sweden. The notion of 'music-therapeutic caregiving' (MTC) as a missing concept in the clinical use of music for patient care is presented. (RH).
