Annotation | Older patients are frequently accompanied on their medical visits by informal caregivers. This study of four US clinics examines patient-caregiver interactions about health related issues; the frequency, importance and reasons for caregiver accompaniment on medical visits; and the health characteristics of patients and caregivers. Findings provide evidence of the "advocate" and supportive roles played by informal caregivers. The high level of depression symptoms found is an issue for doctors to consider. (RH). |
