Annotation | Two recent surveys of older people in Vietnam. indicate some distinct patterns of stopping work across employment sectors (agriculture, state, and non-state), due in part to the nature of work in these sectors. Data from these surveys permit measurements across time, including job switches from one sector to another, or to retirement. Most notably, the data demonstrate the strong outflow of older employees from the state sector. Explanations for these findings pay attention to Vietnam's recent history and social policies, particularly the transition from a socialist to a market economy. (RH) |
