Annotation | Living arrangement transitions in later life can be explained in terms of a person-environment perspective in which the ageing process includes various events (e.g. retirement, death of a spouse) which in turn lead to adaptations or changes in living arrangements. This study uses that perspective to clarify the role that unbalanced social exchanges play in older adults' living arrangement transitions. Data from the US National Survey of Families and Households (NSFH) are used to estimate destination-specific hazard models that include measures of baseline living arrangements, demographic characteristics, financial resources, family structure, and social exchanges. Distinctions are made between transitions that occur within the community and transitions into an institution or death. (RH). |
