AnnotationStandardisation of assessment tools in gerontological social work enables comparability between individuals, and for individuals across time. Paradoxically, this same standardisation eliminates from consideration those individual differences that may have most to do with clients' outcomes. The authors present a theoretical and practical basis for assessing strengths in frail older clients, using these strengths to design and implement individual case plans. The Life Strengths Interview Guide, an assessment tool, is in the form of a set of specific questions that may be used by practitioners to gather information in a meaningful way about their frail clients' personal strengths and assets.
