Annotation | Part of the former Mid Glamorgan, Merthyr Tydfil was made a unitary authority in 1996. With the smallest population of Welsh local authorities, its over 75 population is projected to rise by 12% between 1996 and 2006. This Joint Review provides an independent assessment of how well the public is being served by social services locally, and finds that some are being served well. While the core home services are robust, there are gaps in support services for older people living at home. Domiciliary and day services are in process of change, with the establishment of a Rehabilitation and Development Team. Priorities for action include extending partnership arrangements within the Council and other key organisations. A range of views was expressed in the small response to the users' and carers' questionnaire: day services were highly valued by users, but problems were identified in equipment provision and carers' assessments. The report's text is in English and Welsh. (RH). |
