Annotation | This Joint Review provides an independent assessment of how well the public is being served by social services locally. In Newcastle upon Tyne, some people are well served, and there are some innovative services. There were positive responses to the user/carer questionnaire. Examples of involvement by users and carers in service developments include the Newcastle Carers' Project, run in partnership with the Council for Voluntary Services. Other examples of good practice are: the Going Home Service (part of the home care service, and an example of intermediate care services); Age Concern Newcastle's brokerage service (offering care packages); and mapping pathways of care, which examines good and bad characteristics of integrated services. Priorities for action include reducing waiting times for assessment and delays in hospital discharge. (RH). |
