Annotation | Changes in physical functioning after fall-related injuries to the limbs in 171 Dutch independently living older people (aged 57+) have been examined as part of the Groningen Longitudinal Aging Study. One year after injury, older patients with fall-related injuries had not generally regained their pre-injury levels of physical functioning. Not only hip fractures, but also wrist fractures threaten chances of remaining independent. Prospects of further recovery are minimal 5 or 6 months after the injury. (RH). |
