AnnotationA consultation document, "Quality strategy for social care" was published in August 2000, after completion of the fieldwork for this inspection. The purpose of this related inspection was to evaluate and examine the relationship between quality initiatives and outcomes for service users and carers. Ten authorities were inspected: York, Windsor and Maidenhead, Portsmouth, Luton, Sheffield, Nottinghamshire, Sefton, Cornwall, Wolverhampton, and Islington. Evidence collected and presented includes examples of good practice illustrating the following themes: management arrangements; information and consultation on services; assessment and care management; effectiveness of service delivery and outcomes; fair access; and cost and efficiency. A checklist of key questions can be used as an audit tool. (RH).
