AnnotationA correlational design was to used to examine the relationships between socio-demographic indicators, psychosocial variables, health service use, and satisfaction with the national and provincial health care systems and with health care personally received by Canadian young-old and old-old living in the community. Data from the Health Canada Supplement to the 1994/95 National Population Health Survey (NPHS) were analysed. Socio-demographic variables were the best predictors of satisfaction for the young-old, and consultation with health care professionals for the old-old. Consultation with alternative practitioners was negatively related to satisfaction with health care and to care personally received by the old-old. Identifying the best determinants of satisfaction with health care can provide useful direction to policy makers, planners and practitioners, and therefore more appropriate and effective services for older users.
