Annotation | Dementia patients from a case register were evaluated at baseline and 1 year follow-up using the Cambridge Assessment for Mental Disorders in the Elderly (CAMCOG) and the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) to determine the rate of cognitive decline. Patients with dementia with Lewy Bodies (DLB), Alzheimer's disease (AD) and vascular dementia (VaD) had a similar rate of cognitive decline over 1 year. The annual decline for all dementias was 4-5 points on the MMSE schedule, and 12-14 points on the CAMCOG. Apolipoprotein E4 was significantly associated with more rapid cognitive decline in DLB patients. (RH). |
