Annotation | There is controversy concerning the use of life-sustaining measures such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and tube feeding. The authors studied the short-term emotional impact of a doctor-initiated discussion with frail housebound older patients. Most welcomed the discussion which proved therapeutic for some, possibly because their personal control was enhanced. Clear choices usually emerged regarding their future care. On follow-up, however, several were indecisive about their choices. (RH). |
