AnnotationThis is an abridged version of a review of research literature undertaken for the European Commission (EC) Equal Opportunities Unit, as part of the Fourth Medium-term Community Action Programme (1996-2000). It covers: working and caring; changes in work and family life; attitudes and preferences; how carers manage the relationship between work and family life; the effects of employment and unemployment on health and relationships; and the quality of care services. Gaps in the literature are identified, and recommendations are made for future studies. (RH).
