Annotation | Those working in the field of dementia care know that they need to consult people with dementia about their views of services, but they often require help in finding starting points. This project report follows on from a previous study undertaken by Malcolm Goldsmith, "Hearing the voice of people with dementia". The current project, funded by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF), set out to explore how staff in day, residential and nursing services can encourage their service users with dementia to express their views of the help and support they receive. It describes the processes of developing ideas for approaches to service user consultation work, and examines a novel approach to consent of direct relevance to care practice. It considers examples of various approaches to consultation tried by staff in the service settings, and discusses the factors affecting the scope and type of work undertaken. (RH). |
