AnnotationThis report is based on a research project by the North Staffordshire Pensioners Convention into the living costs of pensioners in Stoke-on-Trent. The aim of the research was to go beyond the general picture given by the statistics which are commonly used as indicators of changes in living standards, and instead talk to older people about their quality of life and the decisions they have to make when living on a pension. Results are based on interviews with 3 men on their own, 18 women on their own, and 7 couples. A few were also invited to keep diaries in which they noted their expenditure over a month. This report presents findings on the interview topics of age, income, housing, fuel, food, health, social and domestic expenditure. (RH).
