Annotation | Ceredigion County Council was created in 1996 from the former Ceredigion District Council and was part of the former Dyfed County Council. It has an ageing population, and more than a third of pensioners live alone. Joint reviews provide an independent assessment of how well the public is being served by social services locally. Users and carers responding to the review's questionnaire were satisfied with the services received, but were not aware of how to access other services or how to make complaints. Examples of good practice include the Ystwyth Supported Accommodation Project (providing 24 hour care for 6 vulnerable tenants and one respite flat); Care and Repair; an accredited voluntary drivers' scheme (there is no community transport scheme in Ceredigion); and a computerised home care system for matching carers to clients, scheduling visits, and other administrative activities. Key priorities identified include: care of older people with mental health needs; better support for older people to enable them to remain independent in their own homes; and providing support for carers. The report's text is in English and Welsh. (RH). |
