Annotation | This is the fourth in a series of studies for the standard Eurobarometer survey (EB53) to include questions relating to the majority population's attitudes towards immigrants and "out-groups" (more precisely, minority groups) in the European Union (EU). Results for the spring 2000 survey are compared with those of the spring/autumn 1997 survey. A statistical technique, exploratory factor analysis, has been used to identify seven dimensions of attitudes towards minorities for analysis: blaming minorities; policies improving social coexistence; restrictive acceptance of immigrants; disturbance; multicultural optimism; conditional repatriation; and cultural assimilation. These dimensions are compared by typology of people according to their attitudes, between countries, and over time. (RH). |
