AnnotationThe effects of post-retirement employment on older American women's life satisfaction are analysed, by comparing those who continued to work or re-entered the labour market with those who did not engage in paid work after receipt of their first Social Security benefits. Although post-retirement employment in itself does not contribute to older women's life satisfaction, financial resources and especially concerns about their own financial situations are potent determinants of life satisfaction. The need to incorporate the role of financial resources and subjective financial satisfaction in the theoretical framework for older people's perceived quality of life are discussed. (RH).
