Journal title | Age and Ageing, vol 30, no 1, January 2001 |
Pages | pp 67-72 |
Keywords | Stroke ; Costs [care] ; Comparison ; Europe. |
Annotation | Duration of stay and use of investigations were recorded for stroke patients hospitalised during 1996-1997 at 13 centres across Europe. The average stay ranged from 9 days (Spain) to 35 days (UK). Treatment costs for men aged 74 and over ranged from $220 in Latvia to $5164 in Austria, reflecting differences in clinical practice and unit costs. This methodology will be used to capture the costs incurred by a broad range of care providers. These estimates will be suitable for using in cost-effectiveness analysis. (RH). |
